Attlee Youth Leadership Awards

The Attlee Foundation is launching its 2011 Attlee Award with a focus on leadership qualities of young people.

In the spirit of Clement Attlee’s work, this award will recognise the achievements of a young person with outstanding potential as a youth worker and community leader. London Youth will be supporting the scheme by promoting the award to all London youth clubs, identifying nominees and putting forward a number of potential winners to the Attlee Foundation to select the young person to receive the award.   The winner will then be presented with the Attlee Award -  on the 25th March 2011 at an event at the Old Bailey with the Sherriff of London.

Attlee Youth & Community Centre celebrates its 5th Anniversary

In March 2011 the Attlee Youth & Community Centre celebrated five years since the official opening of the new centre and redeveloped site – which was opened by Patron of the Attlee Foundation – Baroness Boothroyd.  The guests included a mix of friends, donors, supporters such as the London Borough of Tower Hamlets Mayor and Chief Executive as well Mr Derek Wood QC, ex chairman of the Attlee Foundation.  Derek was thanked for his immense contribution in chairing and leading the fundraising appeal committee efforts which raised over £3 million for the new Centre.

Shilpy Begum, a young volunteer, talked passionately about the benefits she has gained from being part of the programmes at the Centre.  Countess Anne Attlee and other close supporters also spoke to the young people about the work of the Centre. Thanks were given to Neighbourhood Bakeries who prepared a wonderful cup cake celebration display of chocolate cup cakes.

Monica Ali, patron of the Attlee Youth & Community Centre, was unable to attend due to her daughter being unwell on the day, but sent her best wishes for what turned out to be a wonderful celebration event.
