Our 2011 Attlee Memorial Lecture will take place on Thursday, 16th June 2011 and it will be led by Lord Ramsbotham at the Attlee Youth & Community Centre. Lord Ramsbotham, like Clement Attlee was a student of Haileybury. We will bring further details of the Lecture topic and time over the next month.

Royal Visit to AYCC

The Prince was given a tour of the recently developed Attlee Youth & Community Centre and introduced to a number of young people engaged in the sports programme on the night. Anhar Haque (aged 16 years) was almost lost for words as the Prince strided over to him during his coaching session on the cage cricket pitch. The prince joked with him about his sporting skills.

Fiona Bruce – BBC news presenter and Colin Salmon (Spooks actor) also visited the Centre – Colin in his role as the Princes Trust ambassador for cricket and actively supported the Cage Cricket session. Fiona delighted a group of girls and staff (Shoma, Hazera, Azra, Shajeda and Kari) by chatting and having her photo taken with them.

Tracey Fletcher, Chief Executive of the Attlee Foundation who guided the Prince around the Centre said:

“I am delighted that HRH agreed to visit our Centre as it adds credibility to the work we are doing to provide opportunities for young people to develop their health and well being and skills and confidence for future training and employment. His highness showed genuine interest in the young men and women and spent time talking to as many of them as possible. This event was really made possible by the help of London Youth”.
