Name: Sandra Kabir
Position: Vice Chair
Trustee since: 2007
Bio: “I am of British-Bangladeshi ethnicity that attracts me to the community in the area surrounding the AYCC. As a social development worker and admirer of Clement Attlee, I wanted to use my experience and expertise for the benefit of children, young people and families in the Spitalfields vicinity. Additionally, with my contacts in the voluntary sector and political world I can link the Attlee Foundation and make useful connections for the benefit of the organisation.
I have been involved in community-based activities in East London since 1997. I was a Trustee of the Samual Lewis Housing Group, a Founder Trustee of the Tower Hamlets Centre for Voluntary Services (CVS), Executive Director of BRAC UK, Founder Trustee of the Diaspora Volunteering Alliance and MyBnk.
I have been involved in international development for over 30 years based in Bangladesh, Spain, Tunisia and the UK. My area of focus has been women’s health and development -developing and implementing programmes, fundraising and advocacy.
I have been an elected Councillor in the London Borough of Brent for over 6 years. I chair the health partnerships overview and scrutiny committee among other responsibilities.
My experience as chief executive and trustee of numerous voluntary sector organisations enables me to bring management skills and vision to the Foundation. This is particularly useful because of my work with women and young people from different ethnic and economic backgrounds.
I hope for Attlee to be a lead organisation in both demonstrating best practice in children and families support services and influencing local and national policy.”
